The aim of the project is to undertake a sensitive set of works to Greenwich Market in order to enhance its physical condition and function as an important local heritage asset, retail and visitor destination and contributor to economic activity in the town centre.

The overall works comprise the refurbishment of the existing market roof, the re‐laying of the existing market cobbles; redevelopment of the Fry’s Court storage area to create publically accessible open space and a new flexible market area; the refurbishment and extension of 1
Durnford Street to create new retail unit; and general upgrade and refurbishment to ancillary market functions, including change of use of 1st and 2nd floor of Block 2 from B1 to ancillary market storage and new lift; and associated works.

Henny commenced works on the project in November 2014, to undertake the construction of the Fry’s Court Storage area with works comprising brickwork, blockwork, drylining and roofing along with the internal finished such as painting and screeding.

At the same time Henny also commenced with works to the market and heritage surroundings undertaking repair & restoration works to the Stonework, brickwork and plasterworks along with painting works.

In July 2015, Henny commenced with works to the new retail areas. Works comprise refurbishment and repairs including to the following areas:

Banana warehouse: demolitions & rebuilding; repair & re‐roofing flat and pitched; install free issue lintels; internal floor screeding & finish; Stone detail repairs & cleaning, brickwork repair cleaning & repointing; supply and install of shopfronts doors and windows and internal doors.

Market workshop: Kingspan walls and cladding support rails to steelwork by others; roof joists decking and waterproofing to steelwork by others together with works to parapet & adjacent roof; supply and install of all doors windows & ironmongery; all internal construction & finishes to floors walls and ceilings; supply of commercial catering unit.

Retail Units: All external walls including stone upstands and copings and associated openings; Portland stone cladding; supply and install of internal doors; construction and finish of internal walls; floor screed and floor finishes (to slab by others) and skirting’s; all internal finishes; all roofing works including waterproofing, roof lights, green roofing and all associated detailing.

Service Yard: Supply and install of service yard gates.
