The LEGO flagship store, located in the heart of London’s West End at Swiss Court, Leicester Square re-opened with much fanfare on Thursday 10th August 2022 after a major internal refit and refurbishment.
The tourist destination store is the biggest LEGO store anywhere in the world and boasts two storeys and a floor space of 914m² filled with LEGO orientated fun, interactive areas, and highly inspiring model builds. The store re-opening coincided with the 90th anniversary of LEGO, with an exclusive 90-years of play walkthrough exhibit exploring the history of the LEGO group.
The centrepiece of the retail store is the immense ‘Tree of Discovery’ storytelling model, complete with rainbow trunk, that is constructed from 880,000 individual bricks and is intended to demonstrate Lego’s commitment to sustainability, inclusivity and creating a positive impact on society.
Also, in-store are impressive 3D model builds based on iconic British characters including a life-size version of James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5, a Harry Potter scene featuring Gringotts and Diagon Alley, and a huge 6.53-metre-tall model of London’s famous clocktower, Big Ben – complete with working clock.
During the store closure, Henny Ltd was contracted to renew and refit all floor finishes throughout the retail outlet. The project required the breakout and removal of existing flooring, which were then replaced with new screed substrates and floor tiles.
A bold, striking pattern-design of three colours featuring large white, yellow, and dark grey ceramic tiles was laid on both retail floors. An authentic Victorian-style design featuring ivory and dark grey coloured tiles was employed on the stairs linking the retail floors. Completing the renewal, is a large circular representation of the Union flag, created with red, white, and blue mosaic tiles which is situated directly under the Tree of Discovery.
As with all refits and refurbishments completed for any premium retail brands, the quality of workmanship is completed to an exceptional level of fit and finish as would be expected and desired.
